Johnston was named number nine of the world’s 100 best guitarists in 2023 by Guitar World magazine.
His musical influences include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen and Jeff Beck.
“I don’t sound anything like those guys, but I’m massively influenced by them.”
Another influence was Joe Satriani:
“Before I heard Joe, I don’t think I realised how important the role of melodies was in the construction of compositions. I realised that he was the man who really understood the balance between technique, tone, melody and production. While musicians were learning the blues from Hendrix and Clapton, I was learning it from Satriani”.
Main artist for the Schecter brand that made his signature guitar.
Nick is also passionate about comic books and has hired comic book illustrators to create the artwork for his albums.
“‘Nick Johnston is famous for many things. But it is his bold and commanding style that has established him as one of the great modern guitarists ”
